Entrepreneurship is a dynamic field where both passion and specialized skills are essential. CSUSB's undergraduate program offers you the practical knowledge, real-world experience, and the advanced business skills necessary to be a successful entrepreneur in any environment. The program enhances your academic experience by utilizing an integrated, hands-on learning approach. During the program you will collaborate with students from other disciplines and network with entrepreneurs, mentors, and alumni. You'll not only lean what it takes to be an entrepreneur, but also develop the entrepreneurial mindset through experience and challenging coursework.
Whether you intend to start a business, work entrepreneurially in a corporate setting or family business, or take other professional path, success will demand much more than just doing the job. The undergraduate program in entrepreneurship will help prepare you by developing the personal and professional attributes critical to entrepreneurial success and to effectively turn your ideas and dreams into reality.
CSUSB's undergraduate concentration in Entrepreneurial Management offers a wide range of courses tailored to helping students learn how to move from idea to business launch and the management of a sustainable venture. Undergraduate students can take individual courses, select Entrepreneurial Management as their concentration, or minor in Entrepreneurship.
Required Courses for Entrepreneurship
- ENTR 4420 Small Business Management (3 units - offered Fall/Spring semester AND Summer Session):Explores the importance of small business to our economy and examines key competencies needed to manage a small enterprise as owner or manager. Studies issues such as general management, accounting and finance, human relations, marketing, operations, and introduces the nuances and subtleties of these in the small business context.
- ENTR 5430 Ideation and Creative Problem Solving(3 units - offered Fall/Spring semester):Examination of the process of generating, developing and evaluating ideas to launch innovative and viable new ventures. Focus on identifying the difference between ideas and opportunities and the role of ideation, observation and creative problem solving.
- ENTR 5440 Developing the New Venture (3 units - offered Fall/Spring semester):Introduction to the process of developing a new venture concept. Focus on transitioning ideas into a viable business venture with special emphasis on developing a sustainable business model and a hands-on business planning experience. Prerequisites: Successful completion of ENTR 5430.
- TA 3141. The Improvisational Mind(3 units - offered Fall/Spring semester):Development of foundational performance skills essential for success in any fast-paced, unpredictable business environment. Students will focus on developing cognitive flexibility, accessing creativity, exploring ensemble-based collaboration, mastering active storytelling, and honing their unique communication tools.
- ENTR 5450 Resources for the Entrepreneur(3 units - offered Fall/Spring semester):Strategies and techniques employed by entrepreneurs to identify and access critical resources. Special emphasis on developing resource projections, negotiation, marshaling internal and external resources and team formation.
NOTE: We recommend you take the ENTR 5450 course concurrently with either ENTR 5430 or ENTR 5440.

- ENTR 5410 Commercializing Entrepreneurial Innovation (3 units)
- ENTR 5470 Managing a Growing Business (3 units)
- ENTR 5490 Launching the Entrepreneurial Venture (3 units)
- ENTR 5550 Entrepreneurship in Action: Corporate, Social and Family Business Approaches (3 units)
- Any 4000 or 5000 level MGMT, HRM, or MKTG course as approved by the Entrepreneurship program advisor.
