Entrepreneurship is a dynamic field where both passion and specialized skills are essential. CSUSB's undergraduate program offers you the practical knowledge, real-world experience, and the advanced business skills necessary to be a successful entrepreneur in any environment. The program enhances your academic experience by utilizing an integrated, hands-on learning approach. During the program you will collaborate with students from other disciplines and network with entrepreneurs, mentors, and alumni. You'll not only lean what it takes to be an entrepreneur, but also develop the entrepreneurial mindset through experience and challenging coursework.

Whether you intend to start a business, work entrepreneurially in a corporate setting or family business, or take other professional path, success will demand much more than just doing the job. The undergraduate program in entrepreneurship will help prepare you by developing the personal and professional attributes critical to entrepreneurial success and to effectively turn your ideas and dreams into reality.

CSUSB's undergraduate concentration in Entrepreneurial Management offers a wide range of courses tailored to helping students learn how to move from idea to business launch and the management of a sustainable venture. Undergraduate students can take individual courses, select Entrepreneurial Management as their concentration, or minor in Entrepreneurship.

Required Courses

  1. ENTR 442 Small Business Management (4 units - offered all quarters including summer):
    Managerial considerations for the small business entrepreneur. Acquisitions, location, legal considerations, finances, taxation, labor relations and other topics.

  2. ENTR 543 New Venture Opportunity Analysis (4 units - offered all quarters except summer):
    Study of the process of defining and identifying the difference between ideas and opportunities. Examines the role of the entrepreneur, ideas, pattern recognition, and the evaluation and screening process that leads to successful commercialization of business concepts and ideas.

  3. ENTR 544 New Venture Development (4 units - offered all quarters except summer):
    Introduction to the process of developing a new venture concept. Examines key issues in new venture creation, including the role of the entrepreneur in transitioning ideas to business opportunities. Special emphasis on developing a rapid opportunity analysis, identifying a sustainable business model, and business planning. Prerequisites: Successful completion of ENTR 543.

  4. ENTR 545 New Venture Resource Requirements (4 units - offered all quarters except summer):
    Examines the strategies and techniques employed by entrepreneurs to identify and access critical resources. Special emphasis on marshaling internal and external resources such as advisors, board of directors, social networks and other key tangibles and intangibles. NOTE: We recommend you take this course concurrently with either ENTR 543 or ENTR 544.
